Bringing Europe Home

About me

For some brief and shining moments, I lived in Europe.  I spent the better part of a year in and around Venice, Italy, as a college student.  I lived for three years just outside Munich, Germany, with my family of six.  I am now back in Atlanta, Georgia, happily settled in my native South and writing about my experiences overseas.

I decided to create a blog and fill it with tradtions and tidbits from the Continent to the States. I will offer tips, recipes, ruminations, and research, and I encourage you to do the same. (Well, you don’t have to do research…) Whether you are European, an expat, a world traveler, or simply someone who is enticed by all things Euopean, this blog is for you!

You are welcome to contact me at .

  1. Daniela

Oh this is great! I came to visit following your visit to my little Lantern Post! I am European born and bred (from Zagreb, Croatia), living in NZ for the last 18 years!

    Kind Regards,

    • Thank you so much for the visit, Daniela. I’m happy to meet you! I’ve decided to take a little break from the blogosphere for now, but your little Lantern Post will be one of my first stops when I return. All the best.

  2. Hi Robin Jean Marie, I just found your blog. I really like it.

    • Merci beaucoup, Cendriani! Your blog is beautiful, and I will enjoy reading your future posts.

How exciting! You did what I dream of doing! Eventually I will make it over for more than just a quick visit.

    • We dreamed and we did. And yes, you will make it over there, too, Barbie. Who knows–you might just make it over there and stay. 😉

  4. Thank you for following my blog.Time seems to be compressed lately. I awake today feeling so grateful for my life and all its blessings. Blog-pals are important to me. Hugs Mae

    • You’re welcome, Mae! Your photos and words inspire reflection and bring a smile to my face.
Thank you for being a follower, as well! Hugs to you, too. =D

  5. You crack me up. I had to follow!

  6. Hi! I wanted to let you know that I’ve nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award! Thanks for such an enjoyable blog. Here’s the link:

  8. I can’t believe I haven’t ‘liked’ this page before now, or commented on it, because I’m sure I’ve read it. Anyway, if I haven’t mentioned it before I think this is a great idea for a blog, I love the way you do the ‘bring it home’ bit in your posts, it’s a really original idea. You also have some wonderful photos and I really enjoy following your lovely blog, thank you Robin.

    • You’re so kind to say that, Lorna! I truly appreciate your support and your wonderful, witty comments, and I am delighted to know that you enjoy the blog. It has been fun! 🙂

  9. Hi Robin, many thanks for visiting and leaving some footprints on my blog. I am from Europe but never really lived there – loved Venise yet! Wonderful photos about Greece. Another amazing place right! The land of the Gods really. Thanks for bringing us those beautiful atmosphere.

    • Thank you, Fredric, and I’m glad you enjoyed visiting my blog! I’ve just been spending some enjoyable time over at your site, too–you provide a lot of food for thought!

  10. Hey, Roomie, I love this theme and you are doing a great job! I will be doing lots of reading
here today, and want to figure out what your photo challenges are. TMD/WFU

    • Thanks, woman! Is “On The Same Page” all you? Because, whoot! What a site! I’ll be browsing that today, as well. 🙂
I’ve only just started the WordPress Daily Post photo challenges a few weeks ago, and I’ve done a few Wordless Wednesdays in between. I’ve got to do at least one post with more content before I post another photo challenge photo (but I have a few photos that are perfect for the latest challenges and are just hankering to be published!)

  11. Tony

Thanks for following my blog, I’m taking a look at yours now and must say it’s interesting…. Although my Italian blog ranges over a wide variety of subjects I hope you will be back to read more, but in the menwhile feel free to contact me by email to deepen anything you want, or just to be in touch. Hugs

  12. I have nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award! Check it out here:

    • Thank you so much for thinking of me, Glutenvygirl. That is very kind of you, and I appreciate it. 🙂

  13. prairiesummers

I have to admit that although I grew up in Germany i have never visited Munich- I hang my head in shame haha.

    • There’s no shame in that! I grew up in Georgia, and there are some places here that I haven’t been to, either (although none of them as appealing as Munich!) Where did you grow up?

      • prairiesummers

In a small town called Bodenwerder near Hamlin (famous Piedpiper)

        • So you were in the north. How long have you lived in Canada?

          • prairiesummers

I am still in Calgary and I came here in December 2006 🙂

        • Also (and I meant to say this before my computer froze up), I really did love the small towns in Germany. 🙂

  14. Hi Robin Jean Marie, Thanks for stopping by my blog!! Nice blog you have about your experience in Europe. Always nice to hear (read in this case) how others see us…even though within Europe there is soooo much difference that you can’t talk about ‘europeans’. That’s what I like about your blog….you write about different European countries and their ‘specialties’…Nice!! 🙂

    • What a nice compliment to receive, espcially from an honest-to-goodness European! Thank you, Dutch! So many of us in the U.S. have European ancestory, that we still do appreciate the distinctions between the countries of Europe and, in fact, embrace many of those traditions. But, as you say, there are so many differences and so many “specialites,” that I thought it would provide a great subject for a blog. Thank you for stopping by. 🙂

  15. Sounds lovely ! It must have been lovely to live in and visit so many places. Will be around to read more…

    • It really was! And thank you, Mehmudah. I will enjoy visiting your site, as well.

  16. Hi Robin Jean Marie, you may already be an established blogger but I’ve nominated you for the Liebster Blog Award! I really like the way you are sharing the things you loved about Europe with your fellow Americans so they can get a taste of the continent too 🙂

    • Hi, Cozy, and thank you! I just got the Kreativ Blogger Award, as well, and I am nominating you for that! (But I have had such massive internet problems today, I have barely been able to receive emails–much less, send them and create new posts.) Thanks again, and hopefully my internet service will hold long enough for me to publish that awards post for you. I’ll send the link as soon as I can figure that out! (Not only am I NOT an established blogger, I am barely computer competent…but that’s our little secret 🙂 )

Your turn!
